African Union suspends Sudan over violence against protesters | News

The African Union (AU) has suspended Sudan days after the army launched a brutal crackdown on protesters that killed dozens of individuals.

The AU’s Peace and Safety Division stated in a post on Twitter on Thursday that Sudan’s participation in all AU actions can be suspended with rapid impact – “till the efficient institution of a civilian-led transitional authority” as the one strategy to “exit from the present disaster”. 

The announcement adopted an emergency assembly by the AU after the violent dispersal of a protest camp within the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, started on Monday.

A minimum of 108 folks have been killed and greater than 500 wounded, in keeping with the Central Committee of Sudanese Docs. A well being ministry official was quoted as saying the dying toll stood at 61.
