Derby County were made to pay for a defensive error as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
Lewis Grabban scored the match-winning goal for Forest after snatching possession in the penalty area and firing first time into the net after a loose pass from Rams right-back Jayden Bogle.
It’s the striker’s seventh goal of the season and it was enough to seal a huge three points at home to his side’s arch-rivals.
The game was goalless at half-time despite a number of good scoring chances for both teams.
But Forest looked the better side after the break, taking the lead on 56 minutes and holding on well to seal the win.
Derby twice came close through close-range efforts from Jack Marriott as they pushed for an equaliser. They ended the game with 56 per cent possession and seven shots on target – both more than the hosts – but just could not find the net.
The result means the Rams have now failed to beat their East Midland rivals in their last eight trips to the City Ground – the last win coming in September 2012.
Forest’s win lifted them to within two points of Championship leaders West Brom, but they could re-establish their five-point gap with a win over Hull in their 3pm kick-off.
